Does anyone else have trouble heating the upstairs smaller bedroom?

Re: Levittown home owners

Our upstairs rooms are always cold, we keep the heat all the way up. Are your eaves open? Ours are, and we think that the cold air comes in that way. DH has been saying for two years that he will insulate it.

Are you in a cape? I grew up in a Levitt cape and that smaller room was my bedroom. It was actually the warmest room in the house (sometimes too warm), it was right above the oil burner. The chimney also ran through the room and that warmed it. The eaves were sealed pretty tight. Maybe it's something with the insulation? Also, the window might be letting in drafts. That's a problem in my current house (not a Levitt)

Re: Levittown home owners

We keep our heat off upstairs. The 2nd zone thermostats are not functioning right now and if we keep the heat on it gets to be about 90 degrees in there. So we turn the heat on 2 hours before bedtime and shut it off right before bedtime - We also have no eaves. The last owner sealed them up

We cant figure out the problem, the eve is insulated but there is still a draft and we used this plastic shrink wrap around the windows and air conditioner. I dont know what to do, we have to put the heat really high since that is my sons room but I wake up sweating and my throat hurts from the heat. Chat Icon

Re: Levittown home owners

We have lived in out house almost 2 years and have only turned on the heat maybe 4 times upstairs. We haven't found a need.

Maybe that room was never insulated correctly when they finished it? Have you checked your windows, is there a draft?

My Aunt owns a Levitt and I totally agree with this poster. It's an oven in the smaller room!Chat Icon

Re: Levittown home owners

I'm not sure what is the smaller room - I have a cape, but we have 3 bedrooms upstairs...

We have a separate zone for upstairs so maybe that's why I never had a problem.
