Boss Question

I have been working for the company I work at for the past 6 years. I recently got promoted, and my new position is boring as anything. I have been looking for another job with another company for some time now, but I was wondering if you think I should contact my boss who works out of state and tell him I am not happy with what I am doing now, and tell him I am bored 90% of the time? I know its probably a wiers thing to say to someones boss, but my boss is really laid back and I dont see him taking it in a bad way.

I do all my work and get all my special projects done all the time, usually ahead of the time they are due. The thing about my job is that for a months worth of work, I get everything done in the last two days of that month, and the rest of the time I am surfing the internet or reading magazines at my desk...Anything to look busy.

What do you think?
thanks,
Scott

Re: Boss Question

Can you ask him for additional responsibilities and negotiate additional compensation?

My DH had something similar but not to your extent. He then asked his boss if he could take on the additional sales responsibility of sellng booth space at the trade shows his company puts on. Since his boss transferred him from a bi-weekly to a brand new monthy publication (he sells ad space) it really made sense. He had 12 issues to prep instead of 24 and probably not going to make as much money on commission for a brand new publication that doesn't have a following.

It would be easier for you and your boss if you could renegotiate your job responsibilities instead of starting over someplace else.

Re: Boss Question

My company is very cheap with their salary. They offer excellent benefits and 401k etc...but the salary is not why people stay here. If I could find something with better salary, and the same or almost the same benefits then I would stay here, but since I havent really had any good offers lately, I figure I would ask and see what happens.

As far as the salary goes, its only certain people that get what they are looking for, but since my group is a behind the scenec internal group, and I am not making any money for the company, I am not in that group....even though without my groups work there wouldnt be any products for the external people to sell....Its pretty messed up but I figure every company has the same Politics.

Ah, I understand. You guys are the backbone so to speak but they treat you like peasants. If you see no real possibility of internal movement then I would keep looking.
