White Noise machines - a crutch??

Hi,

DD is still waking several times a night and I wonder if a white noise machine might help this stage - she is nearly 7 mths or if I am going to introduce a sleep "crutch" to her.

She naps during the day with the kitchen fan on and it seems to work so I suppose I have already introduced that "crutch" to her.

I cannot do CIO but have to do something.

Last night I put her down at 7.30pm..she woke every hour until 11.00pm then slept after feeding until 2.30am and the only way I could get her back to sleep was to take her into our bed.

Recommend this machine or not?

Thanks

Yes, Definately. I would just buy a table fan, you don't need the machine. It is recommended in several baby books. I have used it for my 2 year old DD since birth. She has always been a great sleeper. Give it a shot, it can't hurt.

we have the noise machine but a fan will be fine too - there is also a web site that plays white noise if you search Google for it

We use a radio tuned between stations, Noah can sleep without it as he sleeps downstairs in the daytime, but we like to think it helps in the night.

My son is 18 months and he sleeps with a white noise machine (it was an old one I had that does aromas as well - we don't use that feature obviously). it was like $40 BBB thing we had in a closet.

He got sick and we started using the humidifier. Since it was the winter when he got better we kept it going. He started sleeping better than ever. When we stopped using the humidifier he started waking again. So we tried the white niose machine and it helps. He seems to be a light sleeper so it helps and I see nothing wrong with it right now. I wonder about it being a crutch but it also isn't healthy for a baby to be lacking sleep - so if it works - I say go for it!

Who cares if its a crutch if it works?!? Seems harmless to me, and if it helps, GREAT!

Sarah used to only sleep with white noise, but now is able to sleep without it.

DH was worried that it would be a crutch, Sarah's doctor said "Who cares? My daughter needs music every night to fall asleep." That made me feel a lot better.

I used to use his regular sound and lights monitor tuned just to static, but i stopped using it about 2 nights ago. He still uses lullabyes that play all night.. set on repeat. If it works, i say go ahead!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm 33 and need my white noise machine at night to drown out hubby's snoring!! I could not survive without that thing! If it works, it works!

We used a noise machine for a very long time. Only this past couple of weeks since we've moved have we tried her without it but the ceiling fan is going in her room so that probably makes a little noise.
