MAJOR TMI, but I know I can't be the only one, so here goes...

Thank God the Zofran worked for me - I am not complaining - but my God, the constipation is too much to handle....

I'm a pretty regular gal - I'm a vegan, so I'm used to smooth moving, if you know what I mean....

I finally had some action today - but it was painful and took a long time with DH knocking on the door every 2 seconds asking me if I'm ok....

So - is it the Zofran, or is it 11 weeks of pregnancy?

also - what are some safe and natural ways I can move things along?

TIA ladies - it ain't pretty to talk about, but I know we are all there or have been there!

I had it sooooo bad two days before my BFP that I came out of the bathroom both mornings and told DH... "I don't know if I am pg or not but I definitely feel like I gave birth just nowChat Icon Chat Icon "

Definitely increase your fiber intake and water. A lot of meds pull the water out of your system and you need it now more than ever.

Colace is good too but try not to use it too regularly a gastroenterologist once told me your intestines can get used to it and not work so hard on their own. You can get Colace near the laxatives at the drugstore.

ETA: There's always prunes and lots of beans (although they can contribute to another problemChat Icon )

Are you taking a prenatal? I was prescribed Prenate Elite, which has a stool softener. I think it helps.

Fiber One cereal works like a charm but too much might upset your stomach.

To tell you the truth, it's really probably from the pregnancy in general. I don't know anything about Zofran so I can't speak to those side effects. I was acutally doing pretty well in that area till very recently. I'm 13 weeks now.

Feel better!

I eat a LOT of fruit and veggies still! So I thought I was taking in enough fiber.... but maybe I'll up the ante - I REALLY want to avoid anything "extra" to take - I am even taking an all natural prenatal vitamin.... Would something like metamucil help?

I have never tasted it - but I'll bet its icky!!! Chat Icon

Metamucil is not so bad- just be careful when you get to the bottom of the glass because the stuff tends to clump. It's got an orangy taste to it- like Tang, but weaker.

I have the same problem. I don't know if it's from the pregnancy or the prenatal vitamin. I am also on Prenate Elite with a stool softener, but that hasn't helped. I bought the metamucil and will try that next.

I used to take Fiber Choice pills. I had to take iron supplements and the Fiber Choice helped so much!

The trick with metamucil is to stir it constantly even while you lift it to your mouth then slam it!

I had the same situation as you and I was also on the zofran so I cant determine if it was prenatals or zofran. My dr put me on flintstones which kinda sorta made it tolerable but I dont think for me that veggies or fruits would have helped. I had to do enemas 4xs in the end and that was between weeks 11-16 so maybe its just the weeks your in...not sure.

Olive Oil -- great for you and keeps your system lubricated.

Re: MAJOR TMI, but I know I can't be the only one, so here goes...

I had the same problem with my first pregnancy. My doctor advised I buy Surfac (a stool softener). It worked...for a while.
Then one day, I was about 16 weeks along, while going to the bathroom (and not even pushing), when I got up from the bowl....I saw that the entire bowl was full of blood. I have never seen anything like it in my life.
We drove to that hospital so fast and the doctors gave me a sonogram ASAP, thinking that I miscarried.
Turned out (thank God) that a major blood vessel had blown out, they said it could have been due to the softener.
It was horribly terrifying!!!
So, don't strain on the toilet.
And...don't use the softeners that often either.
