Has anyone started a budget since finding out they're preggo?

I am doing more hand washing and ironing instead of dropping off at dry cleaners, packing lunches instead of buying out, doing my own manicures. Anyone else or am I the only cheapskate on an austerity budget?

We started cutting back some when we got preggo, it really started more in earnest after the baby was born, but part of that is we're home so much more now on the weekends. We used to be out all day long, now we like to stay home and play all day. Chat Icon

DH & I just bought a house and I am 12 1/2 weeks PG, so yes we are saving $$$. We saved before I got PG and my DH even started a "college savings account" for the little one. DH is a BIG planner.

That's pretty much how its been for us.
I used to get a manicure every week and a pedicure every 3 weeks or so. Now I have hardly any time for that so I'm lucky if I get a manicure once a month. That's just an examply of how you cut back without even trying. Dinner out...forget about it, not with my fussy baby. We cook at home pretty much all the time now.

I guess I would have to say no.

I am currently out of work (have been for a year) and DH is currently on strike from work - so at this time, we have no checks coming in. Hopefully after the holidays we are able save some money.

Re: Has anyone started a budget since finding out they're preggo?

We started a budget right after we bought our house. I became pg about 10 months after we moved in. DH has all of our monthly expenses in an excel spreadsheet with an additional income sheet to calculate how much we can put away at the end of each month. Believe me that spreadsheet is his baby!

We have cut down on entertainment expenses, going out to eat, dry cleaning, buying lunch at work, impulse purchases, uneeded food-aka junk, at the supermarket too. We are such sale shoppers now!

It's worked though, we have doubled our savings in less than a year.

ETS: If anyone wants a copy of the blank spreadsheet we have, I am more than happy to email it, just FM me!

We've started cutting back on going out to dinner and using more coupons when food shopping. And we also set up the "Baby Fund" at our bank (just like our wedding fund befeore we got married). Every time we get paid we each put a set amount of $$ in the account for the baby. We also save all of our change and bring it to the bank and deposit it right in the Baby Fund.

When we got married the Wedding Fund was great - we paid for our wedding in full and didn't have ANY debt when it was over!

Re: Has anyone started a budget since finding out they're preggo?

Im trying to get better at cutting back.

I often bring breakfast or lunch to work - because Times Square prices are insane!

I've been trying to shop economically and store the freezer with food, defrost it during the week and eliminate any take-outs/dinners. Ill only buy necessary clothing that I need to be comfortable and will pick up a maternity bra later on as well as other items for me and baby.

But its so hard because we are moving into our new house in January and doing major renovations to it, so we are spending so much money every day at Home Depot, installing kitchen, buying curtains, painting, molding - its just so insane.

Then the baby arrives in February. Plus, I have my sister's wedding in a week, my SILs wedding in April and 4 other weddings next year that we are going too - its just everything all at once - but we are doing our best to make it all work.

We've tried cutting back on some things (especially since I'm no longer going to be working)...but, I wouldn't say we started a budget. I'm sure that's all going to change though once the baby gets here and it really hits us...
