Umbrella Insurance policy ?

Hi All,
We're reviewing our insurance and were considering getting an umbrella insurance policy, but i'm not really sure if its something we need for now, or to look into later (like maybe when we have kids or something..)

I was wondering do you all have them, or not?
Thanks!

Re: Umbrella Insurance policy ?

I was offered it but didnt take it. Its a little overkill. Get enough liability coverage on your car insurance and your home insurance and you should be ok.

I thought the benefit of having Umbrella was so they cant sue you for your house?

Re: Umbrella Insurance policy ?

I think that's so, the guy basically explained it that if say the mailman falls and slips on my property, hurts himself, and then decides to sue me for a million dollars, then i'm covered. And then no, i wouldn't lose my house paying his settlement. But maybe I have it wrong?

We have one. We are insured for at least 1 million with it. My dad insisted that we get one.

I don't think it's really necessary if you have a good amount of insurance (auto and homeowners) coverage already, but some like to be more than cautious (which I happen to be!).

We have one. It's relatively inexpensive and in today's world where people sue for the stupidest things, I like having that extra protection.

I agree and that is why we have one.
