I think they are right when they say fast food/junk food will be the next tobacco.

So many of my students... all they eat is c r a p.

Parents need to be strong on this issue and especially stop having b-day parties at such places.

Well-- I do think there is an element of personal responsibility BUT these chains are hoping that people get addicted to this food-- I mean, there is a total lack of education and the chains are laughing all the way to the bank.

I know- it's totally crazy.

I just said to DH-- our kids ARE NEVER eating that shite! We never do-- I'd rather stop at a deli and get a turkey sandwich for them than a happy meal-- tough noogies!

The kids do get addicted to it though.

I see Freshmen in high school drinking Red Bull in the morning and all sorts of prepared fast food.

Not to mention all of the marketing with the characters and promotional tie ins to kids moviesChat Icon

I agree 100%

Yes, but what happens when they are on a play-date?

What happens when they go to a birthday party?

DH and I don't even go to chain restaurants at all... no TGIF, not only no McDonalds, etc. It's all processed and cr a p.

Re: Whose watching Dateline?

i must say again

i totally blame parents and their BAD parenting

we are seeing these spoiled kids with their push over parents left and right

Parents need to control their kids...not give into them

but these days that is a rare thing

Re: Whose watching Dateline?

I definitely think it's the parents fault.

The thing with the addiction is that kids don't know any better-- and sadly enough, a lot of adults don't either.

I also agree that the occassionaly fast food is not the problem-- it's the execessive, multiple times a week. But, if they don't get it at home, if they are at a birthday party and they have it every once in a while.

BTW-- I work in advertising and used to work on a toy account-- and we always used the term Pester Power.

i guess i find it very hard to believe that a parent would think eating fast food is a good thing

but then again i know parents who eat out every night because the mom doesn't cook

but on a side note....i also do not see anything wrong with advertising to children

in fact i think it is smart..
and for them to say that they are making it TOUGH for the parents....makes me want to vomit

DECIPLINE YOUR CHILD ALREADY

Re: Whose watching Dateline?

well, I do think it's tougher to be a parent in this day and age-- but I think that there are basic fundamentals of parenting that should not be ignored.

It really all comes down to the busy parent, wanting to be their child's friend, rather than authority figure, wanting to take the easy way out, give their kids want they want and to avoid a "situation".

I am not a parent- so I don't know how hard it is-- but I mean, you are doing your child a huge diservice by teaching them these eating habits and just giving into them so easily in general.

Re: Whose watching Dateline?

I totally remember watching TV after school-- while eating either carrot sticks or apples with a teeny bit dof cinnamon sprinkled on it-- screaming to my mom... MOM, MOM!! Come see what I want!!

I think what has changed is the fact that there is an abundance of children's entertainment properties out there and the licensing industry has taken off. So, instead of just Tony the Tiger and Toucan Sam-- it's Spongebob everything-- not to mention every other TV show and Disney movie having their own cereal, cookies, etc.
