Re: How much do you spend per year on

Ugh, I have no idea. I kind of mix work clothes and weekend clothes (a suit with a shirt I would wear on weekends), so I don't really figure one separately from the other category. I got some new blazers for fall--cord. and velvet--so I'll wear them to work and on weekends.

I spent the most when I first started working--maybe $1000 on staple suits--a black pants suit, a black skirt suit, a grey pinstripe pants suit, a brown suit, a tan suit...You get the idea. That was over 5 years ago now, and I bought mostly Ann Taylor suits so they are still in great shape and luckily I still fit into them. Now that I have those I just supplement as necessary. I probably spend at least $1500 a year on clothes, but it's also a hobby for me. The bad thing is I never get rid of any old stuff so my walk in closet is throwing up clothes.

ick...at first, I had to spend a lot because I only owned 2 suits and I have to wear a suit everyday.

so, I started in Nov 2003 and probably spent $600 to get my wardrobe "started"

in 2004, I lost a lot of weight for the wedding, and bought 3 more suits with shirts. Then, I gained it all back and bought 3 more suits.

So, probably $1,000 in 2004

2005 is when I realized that I don't make that much money and my suits are getting DESTROYED because I do a LOT of walking around NYC. So, for 2005, I started buying much cheaper items. But, I did have to replace 2 suits from 2003 (killed them). So, I'd say I spent maybe $600 this year.

Shoes is a different story. Because of all the walking, I go through a pair of shoes like every 6 weeks. My shoe total since 2003 is probably another $1,000. (I seldom spend over $70 on a pair of shoes anymore because they get destroyed very quickly)

Yes, I've gotten a bit more casual in what I wear in order to save money. I just can't do Ann Taylor any more and afford things for the house, etc. Wish I could but I can't.

Re: How much do you spend per year on

I mostly wear black pants with a nice shirt for work... same shirts I would wear on weekends. On Fridays I wear jeans to work. So I don't have seperate work clothes really.

I also work in a very casual atmosphere where anything goes. Luckily I haven't had to buy the corporate attire for a few years now

Me too . . . I suppose I am better than most people in terms of how much I spend and where I shop, and gratefully I just need to look neat and professional- no need for suits, but I still feel that with what I spend, I never have enough . . . . I think this has a lot to do with my own moodiness and how I will suddenly put something on that I once liked and despise how I look in it . . . .

Re: How much do you spend per year on

Usually about $150 in the summer and $300 in the fall. Those are usually the one day shopping trips. But then a random item here and there, so it probably totals about $600/year. And I'm pretty good. I shop at Marhsalls and TJ's and the sale/clearance racks at the Gap and Old Navy. So if I totalled up the 'real' costs of what I purchased, Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Rarely will I pay full price for clothing. Classics are worthy of more money, so I go to Express or J. Crew for the suit/professional stuff and fads are purchased at Old Navy and Forever 21.

Re: How much do you spend per year on

I have no idea. If I see something I like I buy it but I dont go overboard on huge sprees.

Thank goodness my office is business casual (some of the stuff I wear on weekends I can wear in the office) and I only have to get dressed up for 3 out of 5 days. Friday and Saturday's are jeans. I work Tues - Sat.
