Re: TTCers who work in the city

I have some flexibility- I now work from home 1-2 days a week and would look to increase that if I was uncomfortable..

Other than that I think I'll just have to build more time in to my commute so I don't have to rush and can avoid the crowds..

I would also consider commuting during less crowed times of the day

Re: TTCers who work in the city

I'm not a TTCer yet but my SIL who just had a baby also left herself extra time so she didn't have to do the mad rush runing to catch trains either way. She also had an understanding boss at the time to shift her hours slightly to come in after the crowds.

Haven't given it that much thought, I don't think it willbe a big deal unless I have to ride the subway when it's 100 degrees out!!

Re: TTCers who work in the city

When I was first PG commuting wasn't too bad except the days I felt very sick. I always carried a plastic bag with me incase I threw up. I didn't really need it though since people seem to throw up all over NYC - pregnant or not Chat Icon Chat Icon

The bigger I got the harder it was to keep up with the fast pace of everyone. So I tried to stay to the right and stay out of the way. Some monsters still pushed me out of the way and squished me on the subways and yelled at me that I was taking up too much roomChat Icon

In the middle of the winter I was in my 2nd trimester and I was hardly ever cold - all the extra blood pumping through my body was great - helped keep me warm.

Forget getting a seat on the subway 99% of the time. No one offered. I can honestly say the only people who ever offered me a seat (maybe 10 times my whole pregnancy of commuting to NYC) a few were women and the rest were tourists.

At the end of my pregnancy my commute was HORRIBLE. I could hardly do the stairs, I waddled slowly everywhere, I got out of breath easily and overall had a terrible time. My OB wanted to pull me out of work at 34 wks, I pushed it to 37 weeks. I wish I hadn't. It was really hard commuting at the end.

ETA: I went back to work about 3 wks ago and the commute was SO hard, I was out 13 wks and its a lot harder than I remember. I dont know HOW the hedck I did it 8 mos PG! Long story short, I resigned from my job and last Friday was last day...its just too much for me and too much time away from Chat Icon Now, I have a 5 min. drive to work and 15 extra hours a week to spend with Chat Icon

I am PG now and commuting. It's definitely more difficult than it was before I was PG, because you are just heavier, move slower, get out of breath faster, have to avoid crowds and getting shoved, take up more room on the train seats, etc. And with this summer's heat wave, it makes it extra special!
