expanding current house question

We are toying around the idea of expanding our house; do you bring contractors in to give estimates? This would be in a few years, but we would like to get saving for it.

We want to build an additional garage spot and expand over that and the other garage -

how many sq feet is that?

Do garages cost less to build since they are not finished?

If our electricity is on the outside of our garage - does that cause bigger CO/tax issues - since it has to be moved?

We're trying to see if this is even worth it.

I totally agree. I work at an architectutal and design firm and when I bought my house I had an architect come in and then we started with the renovation process. It was the best thing.

BellaPaige: If you don't mind me asking how much does it cost for an architect to come in? You can fm me if you like.

Re: expanding current house question

I think in general expansions cost around $150 per square foot. If that helps any.

That is about right, especially if you are thinking future prices. In general I think it runs about $125 - $150 a square foot.
