restaurant question..does this seem right?

ya know the place that i wanted to book my bday dinner at (Dip--fondue place) well they want a 250 dollar reservation to hold the spot! kinda crazzzy imo b/c the way they do it--they charge ur card the 250 and then after ur event they reimburse you..i really dont like the idea of that at all!! so can u recommend any other fun place in the city? if not im going to pick a place in queens but im worried some pple who r my friends from nj wont come all the way to "the other side of earth" aka queens lol

eta: its only 8-10 pple so i have no idea why they need such an expensive payment to hold the spot

A lot of places in NYC will do this if you have a large party. They need to guarantee that you will be there, b/c if you weren't to show up they will lose a lot of money. How many people are in your party? You know that Dip is a pretty small place, right?

Also if you are doing this during this month, the holiday season for restaurants is pretty fierce. Some restaurants do hold a security if you don't cancel and just don't show up.

I don't know if you were trying to do this in December or not.

That is weird! I had my sister's bday celebration there and they didn't do that (not that I remember). Alot of places hold your cc for the reservation and will only charge it if you don't show up. But I have never heard of it being $250. I would just call and clarify that they only charge you for a no-show & to hold your reservation, not as a deposit.

I love Dip but they are so weird about reservations and waiting and stuff. I could see if they took your cc info and charged you for not showing or if they deducted the 250 from your bill that night, but not to reimburse you later.

What about a place like Tony DiNapoli's? Or Plataforma Churrascaria? Tony's is family style Italian similar. Plataforma is a Brazillian BBQ type of place that serves food at the table. Both are super delish!

Re: restaurant question..does this seem right?

my assumption is they have raised the dip price b/c it is in decemeber, but its the 29th im interested in so i really am not comfy with a 250 charge b4 hand..50 i can deal with but more then that seems a little much, especially im unclear if it snows and g-d forbid thats the reason we cant make it what the ramifications will be...everytime i call dip they give me a different person on the phone and then im not getting a straight answer...

verrry annoying on there part

Re: restaurant question..does this seem right?

Sushi Samba (we went last night) would be great for a group. It was a lot of fun and you can get stuff to share, that is what we did.

if you want fondue - you can try Mont Blanc - they have:
Swiss cheese fondue
Beef fondue
Seafood fondue
Chocolate fondue

It is a smaller place but they should be able to accomadate 10 people.

http://www.montblancrestaurant.com/

We have gone there twice before shows and have liked it - btw they have no fondue food as well.

I agree. I booked a small NYC dinner party (10+) as was required to pay the room fee & deposit via credit card when I booked.

eta. Yeah! Just read the update!
