Which school? We have friends that teach in one of the middle schools and really love it. Its not always easy, with the language barrier sometimes, but they are genuinely happy there.

I heard it can be rough, but the staff LOVE working for the district..they have a very strong and good union and good supportive staff, I think that outweighs the students who can be rough.

Yikes, a difficult community, but I too have heard that the district staff have a good bond, I wouldn't want to work there though.

I went to Brentwood schools all my life and now I teach adult ESL in Brentwood in the library (day) and in the high school (night). It has its good and bad, but overall, the teachers are great. A lot of Brentwood grads go back to teach there because they feel so strongly about giving back to the community. The district has great math, science and music programs and the kids who excel in those programs are from all different backgrounds.
As far as the language barrier, yes, there are a lot of immigrants, but from what I have seen in my job, they want to learn because they want better opportunities.
Whatever you do, don't be afraid. Brentwood kids laugh when people tell the "horrors stories" they heard about the schools. So much of it is exaggerated.

i will be in the elementary school, so i am not afraid, i was just wondering about their hiring rate of student teachers and teh hours in the elem school day, stuff life that. thanks

An old HS friend of mines mom worked in the elementary school for YEARS. I never heard her having any issues but she did say it was hard and sad.
