Lupron and IVF question...
Why do they put you on Lupron when you do IVF??? I was just wondering. I don't completely understand about Lupron. I was only told that it basically puts you in a temporary menopause? How does that help with IVF? Thanks... Sorry if it's a stupid question. I don't really know how IVF works.

Re: Lupron and IVF question...
my understanding is that it suppresses the ovaries until you are ready to start stimulating them. Nt sure if this answers your question any more than you knew.

Re: Lupron and IVF question...
Basically it suppresses the ovary prior to cycling and keeps the ovary from ovulating early and releasing those eggs before they are ready. So they give HCG shot about 36 hours prior to retrieval and that finishes the "ripening" and then they harvest the eggs. If you don't take your HCG shot when you are suppose to or your retrieval is really delayed I know then you can ovulate. Hope that helped... Good Luck!
