Washing Machine Question?

My husband is on this new kick that if we are not using the machine we should turn the water off from the hose. I have NEVER heard of this. (My husband has these weird quirks) He swears that other people do this. In all the years we had a wahing machine we have never done this!
Is he nuttier then I think?

Re: Washing Machine Question?

my husband has me do the same thing, they did it in his house, and since i always lived in an apt, we didn't have to, but if it makes him feel better so be it.

My mom does this and I don't understand it....however, out of habit...I do it.

Re: Washing Machine Question?

My father makes signs down by the washer to remind people to shut off the water. The hose broke and flooded the basement....so now he is paranoid.

Re: Washing Machine Question?

We do it, but we live in an apt, and we do it to avoid leaks and water flow problems for the people below us.

We never did it in my parents' house.

Re: Washing Machine Question?

my mom used to do it, i never knew why. we had a lever right next to the washer, so it wansn't that hard to do, it became 2nd nature.

Re: Washing Machine Question?

My aunt and uncle had the entire first floor and basement of their house flood when the washing machine hose broke while they were away for a weekend.

It was not pretty and costs a lot of $$$ to repair the damage. Now, everyone in the family shuts them off if we will be away for more than a day.
