Another Levitt Cape Question

The house we are buying has one bathroom, but supposedly the levitt cape is set up to have a second bathroom upstairs. I heard that all the pipes are there, is this true? Is it easy to put a second bathroom upstairs? Right now the space is a closet, and we could put a half bath in there.

Re: Another Levitt Cape Question

well...i dont know if its true that they were set up that way. but my DH and i were considering adding a half bath upstairs for now, until we expand, and my dad had a really easy time with the plumbing. i think because where it would be is right above the kitchen and existing bath.

FYI, we thought of putting a half bath as soon as you walk up the stairs, but it turns out it wouldnt work out with the ceiling slope, so check that out first if thats what you were thinknig of. good luck!

Re: Another Levitt Cape Question

Right on top of the stairs would be the only place to put the bathroom...That is where the closet is

Re: Another Levitt Cape Question

make sure you stand in there. just figure out the logistics first. basically, it worked well for girls, but not so well for boys if you know what i mean. figure out where the door would be and the toilet etc. it is possible that the slant is slightly different for us, so it may work out for you. for us, it just didnt give enough head room.

hope it works!

FYI: we actually converted the upstairs second BR into a laundry room with a big closet and we were going to add a 1/2 bath. but we decided against the bath due to the fact that we dont know when we are going to need it for a babies room. ( :

Re: Another Levitt Cape Question

I think it may work, but we will have to check out the closet again....Danielles dad mentioned putting in a shower too but there would be no way....possible to do that...

The closet is directly above the full bath that is down stairs.

Re: Another Levitt Cape Question

There were 4 different style capes built back in 1948, maybe we have different ones.

Re: Another Levitt Cape Question

I have a full bath right in front of you when you walk up the stairs. The previous owners expanded the back so the ceiling is higher. I love having a bathroom on the 2nd floor.

Re: Another Levitt Cape Question

Ah did they dormer the whole back of the house or just the spot where the bathroom is? I have seen house with just the spot where the bathroom is. We just want to put in a sink and a toilet. So we dont always have to go downstairs to use the bathroom

Re: Another Levitt Cape Question

The entire back of the house was partially dormered. The ceiling slopes a little but there is still room in the shower for a tall person. We redid the bathroom and removed the bathtub and installed a stall shower the same length as the tub so it is nice and roomy. It's unbeliveable what people have done to these levitt homes.

Re: Another Levitt Cape Question

I don't think that they were all made with pipes upstairs for a second bathroom. However, the originals didn't even have the upstairs finished. Maybe the owners who finished the upstairs put the pipes in.

When we bought our house we were also told that the pipes were already there for a 2nd bathroom. Apparently, they had a 2nd bathroom at one time, but it was taken out for a 3rd bedroom. I guess they never had the proper CO for the bathroom. Sounds weird to me. We have thought about adding one, since our master bdrm is so huge. However, we decided to hold off. We will revisit it in a couple of years when we decide to either stay longer and expand (dormer the front & expand the kitchen) or move.
