I just ordered our New York City Ballet Nutcracker tickets!
We go every year and DH has grown to really love it, mostly because he knows I've danced in it every year from like 10-25!!! ha ha!
We got them for Saturday December 23 at 8:00 and are planning a nice romantic dinner beforehand....my bday is Dec. 24 so I always get so excited!

you should go! If anything it just puts you in the spirit. You get a glass of champagne during intermission, stand out on the promenade and look out at the Lincoln Center fountain.....I always think back to "what if" and drown myself in nostalgic sorrow......LOL.

I was extremely burnt out and had some issues with eating...I was about 98 pounds and just very exhausted....to be honest, I truly enjoy being in the audience and just appreciating the talent....because now I can eat what I want! ha ha!
Edit: I stopped seriously pursuing it at about 19

I know exactly what you are talking about. Ballet is not an easy life! As gorgeous as it is. I wasnt into it as far as you but I went to a dancing school and did pointe for years. My feet are totally jacked up for life as a result.

LOVE the Nutcracker - it was Clara that made me want to dance...
It's so funny - not only did we stop dancing for the same reasons...we share the same b/day
Have a fabulous time!

I love the Nutcracker! DH and I went a couple of years ago, I'm trying to talk him into it being an annual thing, but he hasn't gone for it (yet)
Enjoy, sounds like a romantic night

Sorry, ABT fan here!!!!!
Are you ready for a fight?! I'm joking. I love ABT; I do enjoy the classics. But the neoclassism of the NYCB is something I adore....I love Stravinsky and Balanchine's choreography to me is timeless....I was also trained by a former NYCB soloist, so I'm biased!

Re: I just ordered our New York City Ballet Nutcracker tickets!
I wish I could convince my DH to go...even knowing how much I love it he won't go and I have to take my Mom. Maybe he will surprise me one year with some tickets to the ballet...that would be so nice...until then, it's me and Mom.
Enjoy!!!

I worked at ABT for 6 years, so I could dance a bit of Don Q for you if you'd like I've seen it so many times!!!
I've seen a few things at NYCB, but I could never really get into it, and I suspect I'm a bit biased because I just wasn't as familiar with the dancers. I enjoy some of Balanchine's choreography (Tchai pas is just gorgeous) but I prefer to watch ABT's dancers do it - just find when I watch NYCB I'm looking at a bunch of girls who all look and dance the same way - which again is partly due to the fact that I don't know them, but it's partly due to the Mr B aesthetic.
And it's hard to beat ABT's men - although I will say that Nikolaj Hubbe is not at all bad to look at

I think guys are so funny with ballet - it's really just the stereotype of ballet that makes them say absolutely not...my DH got dragged to quite a lot when I was working at the ballet, and now he absolutely loves it. I bet if you managed to get him to go just once, he'd enjoy or at least appreciate the athleticism involved!

The key words are "if I manage to get him to go"
I'm going to try my hardest though...he should be more openminded to something that I love so much.

Did you dance with them? I would love to work at a ballet company in some capacity. Yes, Niko is super hot. Actually, so is Ben Huys (no longer there) and also Stephen Hanna.....SO hot! We used to have a lot of NYCB guest artists come out and dance and teach with us, so I've met many of them. My favorite NYCB piece is definitely Four T's---also, Serenade is amazing. I love how Balanchine came here and got so inspired by Americans that he did works like Western Symphony and Stars and Stripes...I could go on forever!
I did get the opp to interview Paloma Herrera recently; she called me here and I think I almost died for a minute! She's ABT's superstar to me...and Julie Kent
