Ok, so dh and I are leaving for Italy/Sicily tomorrow and....
we have NO idea where we are going or staying!!!
We are going to do Rome on the way back for sure but...has anyone been to Siracusa, taormina or Catania?
Or should we just head to Calbria/ Tropea?
Or any other suggestions?
I know you think I am crazy, but I work for an airline so this last minute stuff is what a lot of people do- I am just not good @ it.

I'm guessing it'll be the opposite - dead. Because everybody will have gone to the beaches and a lot of stuff might be closed down. But, you never know. August is over, and that's usually when they all take vacation.
Have fun!

OMG, Your so lucky!!!!
Have a great time and a wonderful trip.
My family is from Sicily - i've been there numerous times and love it - although haven't been to Taormina or Siracusa yet....
I have been to Trapani and Palermo mostly - if you go you must see Castellamare City, Segesta, Argrento and visit the beaches of San Vito, Scopello, Lo Zingaro - they are famous hotspots in Sicily - and are unbelieveably gorgerous!!
Either way, you are going to have a blast and eat a gelato for me please!!! Have fun!!!

Actually it shouldn't be too busy with tourists at this point - the feasts are almost over and kids are going back to school soon - people are resumming going back to work - the busiest months are usually July and August - so it should be perfect for you to visit now. Have fun!!

Thanks Ann, I will definitely have a gelato for you. I went to Castellamare and Trapani with my dad a couple of yars ago and i loved it. Dh has never been. We have some "great great cousins" in Motelepre, Sicily that we found while we were there in 2003.
I am just so nervous because we don't even know where we want to go after we land in Rome.

Have you tried Tripadvisor.com? The forums may be helpful- there are some local experts on there and they also have a big listing of hotels.
