Any Pregnant Teachers??
When did/will you tell your students?
Just wondering. I work in a middle school and I am not sure when to spread the news.
Thanks

Re: Any Pregnant Teachers??
Me! I teach 1st grade, I told them when I was about 13-14 weeks. I didn't have to, but I wanted to tell everyone, they were so excited.

Re: Any Pregnant Teachers??
I told my students when I was around 5 months. I was starting to show and it was almost the end of the school year and I didn't want them to be in shock in September when I was huge!

Re: Any Pregnant Teachers??
I just don't know when to tell them. Should I tell them now, or wait when it is obvious??

Re: Any Pregnant Teachers??
What grade do you teach? I thought it was best to wait until I was showing but I taught kindergarten.

Re: Any Pregnant Teachers??
I'm a speech pathologist, but all of my students are autistic and haven't noticed a thing. I only have 1 or 2 kids on my entire caseload that will probably ever notice anything.
When did/will you tell the parents? I haven't told my parents yet. If any of them ask I would tell them, but otherwise I'm not saying anything yet. I've been going to their houses after school for home visits and none of the parents have said anything, but I think I have gotten a few glances at my belly. They might suspect something, but probably are afraid to ask in case I have just gotten fat since last year! My last day with the kids is going to be Feb. 17th. Maybe at parent-teacher conferences next month I will bring it up. By then I'll be about 7 months so it might be pretty obvious at that point anyway.

Re: Any Pregnant Teachers??
I didnt have to because when I got back to work I was already 4 1/2 months and it was getting apparent. I just told them that I will be back after I have the baby. I am due in February and will be back in May. - Shari

Re: Any Pregnant Teachers??
I teach high school in the Bronx and my daughter was born in September. Anyway, I didn't have to tell them...several students "noticed" and confronted me on it I told them to mind their own business, but decided it was time to tell them the next day since word was spreading!
ETA: that was around 14 weeks.

Re: Any Pregnant Teachers??
I have no idea when I'm going to tell my students, especially because I teach the ENTIRE school, 1-8! (I'm the music teacher). I do not think they will figure it out on their own, but it's just an awkward conversation to have with little kids. Maybe I'll put something in our school newsletter when I start to show.
