Annoying about Good Sam
Dh and I took a lamaze class which went over c-sections. Good Sam requires DH to take the class there if he is going to be allowed in the room if I need a c section.
It is 2 hours long.

Re: Annoying about Good Sam
My Dr. is affiliated with good sam and I told him we were watching a DVD- not taking lamaze. He said as long as it had a C-section part on it that it was okay. Now I'm worried...

Re: Annoying about Good Sam
I would double check- it was not my Doc who told me this it was the lady from the hospital Perinatal education dept. She told me when I called to sign up for the hospital tour.
She said only the class there was acceptable.
Eta: the class is free.

Re: Annoying about Good Sam
This is so stupid.... DH does NOTHING during surgery, other than sit next to your face, he's not even allowed behind the curtain....
DH isnt ALLOWED to do anything...why take a class on how to do nothing...most men have already mastered this trait!
ETA: What happens to the couples who go a few weeks early and need an emergency section, and havent taken a class yet...
Sorry-I dont know why this is making me so mad...

Re: Annoying about Good Sam
It is to inform him of what to expect. Also, a husband SHOULD take the birthing class with you. He needs to be informed to help you during labor and to be YOUR advocate. Sometimes your husband can help you more than you think. BUT I was warned that a women was FORCED to get an epidural at Good Sam recently. I mean, she was told that it was "time for her epidural and if she had to have it" she tried to fight them on it and they threatened to call Child Protective Services on her if she said No. Just be aware of YOUR rights!! You can't be FORCED to have an Epidural or a c/s against your will. I just wanted to let you know so you can prepare yourself and speak to your doctor. If you do NOT want a procudure or a drug you can't be forced.

I agree, and dh did take a birthing class with me somewhere else, that is why it is annoying that he had to take it again (he just got home).
As far as forcing an epidural or them calling cps? I don't believe that- it sounds pretty silly to me. I don't think they would do that, and I don't think any woman would really fall for that, do you?

Re: Annoying about Good Sam
To me that sounds like it can't be right -- because what happens when the mom plans on laboring and delivering vaginally and then last minute they have to change and doa c-section -- wouldn't the father be allowed in there?
Also my SIL delivered by c-section at Good Sam and from what I remember my brother was there because he was telling ust hat he looked over the curtain and saw EVERYTHING...so I'd double check on that. I know they didn't take ANY classes.

Last night we went for the tour and were told again that if dh didn't take the class and I needed an emergency c section(I am not planning on having one) he couldn't come in. Then a nurse told us that the nurse there MAY OR MAY not, it depends on who it is!
BS!!! Anyway, he took it just in case and got his certificate that we have to bring with us.

Re: Annoying about Good Sam
My hospital hasn't mentioned anything like this to me...I guess I'll ask my doctor at my appt tomorrow if DH will be able to be there with me if a C section is needed.
