Things to avoid

I just got my BFP yesterday! Chat Icon Chat Icon
Since I haven't been to the doctor yet I was wondering what are the things to avoid when you're pregnant? I know the obvious ones like alcohol, caffeine, smoking, but what else is a no no?

Re: Things to avoid

Soft cheeses... 1 can of tuna per week...no kingfish, tile fish, mackeral, swordfish or tuna steak...no deli meats unless heated first...

I'm sure there are other things - just drawing a blank!

Re: Things to avoid

Congrats! My Dr. says one can of tuna a month.

Also no artificial sweeteners- that was a big one for me.

Re: Things to avoid

Congratulations and Welcome! My doctor told me anything in moderation EXCEPT for the large fish, because of the mercury in it.

Re: Things to avoid

Yep..that's right the Artificial sweeteners! Forgot about that one. My Dr. told me that Splenda was OK..but I use it in moderation because it's still relatively new to the market and who really knows the effects.

Congrats!

My dr said everything in moderation and didn't say I had to avoid anything in particular. He said you name it - he can say something bad about it.

I stayed away from the obvious - raw meats/fish, alcohol and such. I limited my soft cheeses, hot dogs and some things like that. I ate sandwiches a lot at the end - with cold cuts - in fact I had too!! I had to per my diet from my high risk dr office. Never had to heat them first.

Re: Things to avoid

Congrats....my dr said to avoid artificial sweetners, alcohol and smoking-even 2nd hand smoke.

Things that are ok in moderation, but I still avoid:
caffeine...I drink a sweet tea or a soda once in a blue moon
hot dogs--I only eat Hebrew National 100% beef
cold cuts-I only eat turkey breast anyways, but not on a regular basis

NO HOT TUBS, warm baths are ok.
