I second the spider man stuff! My son is crazy about it...
Does he have a leap pad? Board games, Candyland? Chutes & Ladders?
Remote control trucks.

I'd go for the Vtech educational video game! The portable one is the newest one...my 4 yr old nephew has had it for a year and LOVES it
ETA: this year though he asked for batman bed sheets for his big boy bed, a new garbage can for his bedroom (don't ask), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and a video game that he was playing with DH on Thanksgiving
and anything STAR WARS
