Bottle/ Formula Question??

I brought my son for his 1 year well check yesterday and the pediatrician told me that he should only have 8 ounces of milk or formula PER DAY! I have been giving him 24 ounces! He also eats all jarred baby foods. Just started some table foods. The docs reasoning for this is that he feels the baby should get most of his nutrition from solids...not milk. That's just for calcium at this point and 8 ounces is more than enough, so he says. What's your opinion?

BTW- this is my second child and I don't remember giving up the formula at 1 year.

I dont have any experience with this yet but know that a lot of babies start whole milk at one year old or around that time. Hopefully the more experienced moms could help you out!!

Re: Bottle/ Formula Question??

They do give up the formula at 1 year but i've never heard of only 8 oz of milk per day. My almost 2 yr old still has appx 18 oz and my 3 1//2 yr old has about 12 oz, and they both eat plenty of other food. I can understand if you went there and said your child doesnt like drinking milk and your ped said that she can get her calcium from other foods and not to worry. But to tell you to limit it to that little an amount sounds really unusual to me.

Re: Bottle/ Formula Question??

We went to Nate's 12 month visit on Tuesday and the doctor gave the OK for whole milk. He said that he should be getting 16 - 24 oz a day.

Re: Bottle/ Formula Question??

Yeah...I'm really confused. I know I can start whole milk now (I started cutting the whole milk with the formula at around 11 months, but he wasn't taking it well...very gassy- so we stopped). But what I didn't understand was the 8 ounces a day! Like I said, this is my second child and my 4 year old probably consumes more than 8 ounces a day of milk, between what's in his cereal and what he drinks. The practice that I go to has 5 doctors. One that I LOVE; 2 that are alright; 1 that's so "Old school"; and 1 I can't stand. Who do you think I saw?
I'm just going to start the whole milk and give as much as I deem needed.
Thanks so much for your advice!
