actual time without a kitchen - 3 wks, time from when they started til it was completely done, probably about 3 mths? But it's small things that hold you up and it's usually just cosmetic.

Re: how long did it take you to redo your kitchen?
Normally my FIL doesn't start a job (kitchen designer) until all materials are on site... this is why people love him. However, we closed on our house and were not living in it. My kitchen only took as long as it did because I could not measure and order the cabinets until we closed on the house. My cabinets were custom and they took 12 weeks from the factory. Didn't matter because my contractor had three other bathrooms and a TON of other stuff to do.
My kitchen took a little over three months start to finish but normally it would have been done in no more than 2 to (max) 3 weeks. We also vaulted the ceiling, took down walls, changed some closets.

Re: how long did it take you to redo your kitchen?
About 8 weeks... but, we didn't close on our old house until 8 weeks into the new place so we weren't living there - that makes construction a little easier. And, take into consideration, we did all of the demolition and building ourselves, except for the electrician and one contractor who took out a door and installed a window in its place. If you hire someone, presumably it wouldn't take as long... depending on your contractor

It should take us about 6 weeks. But we havent picked out cabinets yet so that may delay us depending on how long it takes for the cabinets to arrive.
