My PARKED car was hit this weekend...
Thankfully the lady stopped and called the cops, but this is soo inconvienient. Aside from the fact that AutoBody shops and Police Stations don't have hours convienient to those of us who work in NYC, can someone explain to me why I have to pay $10 to get the police report when SHE hit me??
I'm extremely cranky today...

Ugh I'm so sorry that happened.
You're so lucky that she stopped.
My sister's car and my grandmother's car were both hit in parking lots a few months ago----and no one stopped. It cost them both a few hundred $ to fix them.

Oh, I'm def. lucky she stopped, it's just such a hassle. You don't think your car is going to be hit while it's parked infront of your house... but I guess ya never know...

Re: My PARKED car was hit this weekend...
Doing anything car related is a PITA, IMO. Going to the DMV, going to the mechanic, etc. - all usually involve weekday time off from work. Grrrrr.
Try to look at it this way - $10 for the police report is way better than paying your deductible if she hadn't stopped

Re: My PARKED car was hit this weekend...
I know it doesn't seem like it, but you are SO lucky!! The fact that she stopped and called the cops is so rare.
DH's car was slammed by a drunk driver after a neighbor's party. They just drove away. A witness put a note on his car that the driver came from the house and he spoke to the neighbor's dad and eventually found out who hit his car.
It is a pain in the azz, but most people don't stop or call the police. You had one honest person hit you. It still sux, but it could be a lot worse.

I know I'm extremely lucky... and the lady felt so bad, it's just such an inconvienience.. I def. feel for those people who are hit and left. It's happened to me with my old car. I was in CVS, came out and couldn't open my door because someone hit it in a way that jammed the door closed. I had to climb in through the passenger side.... it def. SUX!

Re: My PARKED car was hit this weekend...
I actually hit a parked car while trying to parallel park awhile back. My car had a dent but their car was screwed up. I got hysterical at the scene and they felt so bad for me. I can't begin to tell you what a horrible feeling that is when you know you just put these people out.
I got their address from the police report and sent them one of those gift baskets apologizing. I didn't know what else to do. They were really nice though, saying accidents happened, but i still felt horrible the rest of the week.

Are you sure police stations aren't open late? I had to do a background check that required fingerprints - they were open 24 hours in Huntington's 2nd precinct.

The area I need to pick up the report closes at 5.

Re: My PARKED car was hit this weekend...
Just FYI, if it's a hit and run and you are not in the car, your insurance will NOT go up. You will still have to cover your deductable, but it will not affect your insurance rate.
