Expressing & Bottle Feeding

Hi Ladies,

Can I dip into your wealth of knowledge to ask if anyone knows of any good support groups or website for expressing & bottle feeding. My little guy is 9 days old today and he is unable to latch on, so I am pumping and bottle feeding, but would like some support and more information as I feel my BM looks very watery and I wonder if I am not expressing long enough...or if this is just the way that it is.
He seems to be very hungry all the time!

Any advice or any websites would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Expressing & Bottle Feeding

If your BM is watery it probably means you're not pumping long enough. BM comes out in stages - the first part ("foremilk") is lighter in color and the last part ("hindmilk") is much creamier in color. The hindmilk is what's rich in calories and fat and what your baby needs most. If you're baby is eating too much foremilk you'll notice that his/her bowel movements start becoming green.

Here's a good website - www.kellymom.com

Re: Expressing & Bottle Feeding

Yahoo Chat has a pumping chatboard.
If you need ANY support I am also always here. I did it for a year and know what it feels like to go thru this.

Are you using a hospital grade pump 8x per day (every 2-3 hours for 20-30 minutes)?
But a word of advise: with the help of a professional lacation consultant you may be able to get your baby to latch.
