How much is your annual service contract with your oil company?
We use Slomins (we took over the contract from ILs when we bought) and we got the contract today for 1 year of servicing and it's $190. That seems kinda high to me, but I have no idea what other companies charge. Thanks.

I thought so. It's b/c they've had the contract on this house for so many years. I guess it's time to shop around. Sigh.... I hate doing that stuff.

I paid $199 for a year through Slomins. But I have full insurance on everything in my house related to my heating system (furnace, oil tank, pipes, etc.)
My furnace can blow up tomorrow and they will replace it with a new one at no charge.

$0 with Slomins and we just signed up in November. They normally waive the service fee. And we have the same coverage, if the thing blows up tonight, they cover it. Definetly find out about that.

How did you get them to waive the service fee? Their "service contract" is free. But in order to get full insurance replacement... you have to pay extra.
Their basic service contract does replace almost everything on the boiler as far as parts goes... with no money coming out of your pocket.
But it doesn't cover a full boiler... nor does it cover other items in your house like your oil tank... heating pipes... etc.
If you got all of that... you got a good deal. Care to share how you got that?

Your right, sorry we go the service contract fee waived, but we are covered if anything happens. I'm pretty sure that includes pipes and the oil tank. But I'm not positive, so I'll look into it and get back to you.

We have astro fuel and we dont pay anything. They maintain the burner once a year and have come at 2 am to fix the burner when it stopped working. The servicemen are all very nice and helpful too.

Hmmm, maybe we have this full service thing too. I'll have to call them and see what exactly it covers.
Thanks!

You might want to read the fine print on the contract. They do freely advertise their "free service contract". But the sales rep said that does NOT include a full furnace replacement if the entire thing blows it. It also didn't include the separate oil tank (thats located outside) or all my heating baseboards.
He said "thats what you buy the insurance for".
He also said your furnace has to be in good enough condition to even get the insurance. They aren't going to fully insure a furnace thats about ready to fall apart (they send out an inspector to check it first).

Re: How much is your annual service contract with your oil company?
I'm not sure what we were paying...but we have 2 oil burners...one for the house and one for the apartment....it was getting costly to carry on 2 contracts...so since my father is in the HVAC business...(not residental unfortuantly) he told us to drop the contracts...but certain spare parts and either this weekend or next he is going to convert the 2 boiler system to 1...and save the spare set up for parts...
truth be told if something happened in the middle of the night when DH is at work I would have called my father over to my hosue anyway to make sure that the Oil Co wasn't trying to over charge me....or charge me for something that was actually covered in my contract...so since I'm calling him anyway I might as well drop the contract.
