depends on where you are going
But I was JUST told that as of 1/2006 you need a passport for all cruises.

Re: Question about travel documents...
we are going next month. I am praying that DH gets his passport in time.
If he can't locate his original birth certificate where can he go to get a certified state copy and how long would it take?

Re: Question about travel documents...
You have to have either a passport or a certified birth certificate and drivers license. I would call the city clerk in the city that issued his B.C and ask how to get a new certified one. My DH had to get one a few years ago. I think it took a couple of weeks. That also was before 9/11 it might be more complecated now.

Re: Question about travel documents...
When I sent in the application for his passport by mail I made the money order out to "U.S Department of state" I didn't write any address on it cuz they didn't give me one so I just wrote down who it was to be written out to.
I am starting to panick about this...I also don't know if they are going to use the express mail envelope i included and if they do I am going to worry cuz nobody will home to sign it. I hope they leave that little note...errr! i'm making myself crazy...they said it get's processed 3 days after they receive it so i tracked the package and it said it was signed for...
I don't know what to do

Can you call the place you sent the docs to? Maybe they can give you the status?
Did you prepay or pay extra to have the express shipping or did you just include the envelope? If the package is returned with the express envelope, the PO WILL leave a notice for you to to pick it up at your local post office or you may be able to sign the slip which the carrier leaves...the slip/notice will have instructions.
ETA...maybe you should order the birth cert. now anyway so you have all your bases covered.

Re: Question about travel documents...
Where was he born? If he was on born on LI, go to the town hall in the town where he was born. If he was born in the 5 borough's, call 212-788-4520. I have had clients call and get it pretty quickly

I haven't heard of the site, but it sounds like it is worth a shot.
