Carpet vrs. Pergo (or Shaw, Armstrong etc)
We need to replace the pepto pink carpet in our guest bedroom. We would like to go with whatever is less expensive but still looks decent. The room will be used very rarely... like maybe 1 week out of the year at most. Any suggestions? Where did you get yours from? Did you install the carpet/pergo yourself?

I would just do carpet if you are looking for an easy install. Have the carpet company install.

Re: Carpet vrs. Pergo (or Shaw, Armstrong etc)
If it's a small room like 12x10 then I would go to a carpet store and look for remnants. You can buy a piece of the remnant for dirt cheap-maybe $150 and then get them to install for another $200-$300 ish..I went to Empress carpet on rt 110 and did just this for my stairs. I picked a berber so it was more. I think you could probably get the whole thing done for about $500.
Pergo or anything else will be much more work for you if you do it yourself and way more expensive if your floor is uneven and then you will have to put down a subfloor. $$$$$$. A lot of floors are uneven and you hace to have a level floor for pergo type flooring.
I had carpet in my living room-that cost about $1200 installed. I then wanted pergo so I did it for about $3400-I had to lay a subfloor under it and that jacked it up about $1200! Quite a difference.

My IL's just put the Costco laminate flooring in their basement. It looks great and actually costs them more money to get someone to install it than to buy the actual flooring.
BJ's had some last time I was there (month ago) as well.

If you;re looking for a "quick fix" th elaminates are Ok, but they are pretty unreliable, I'd go for caroet if you don't want a headache (my husband;s a floor layer and refuses to ever install pergo floors because he thinks they are a waste)
