Ladies who get their hair highlighted!
After I get my hair highlighted and the foils are removed, my hair stylist usually puts something on my hair called “toner”. She squeezes it out of a bottle all over my head and puts cellophane on it and puts me under the dryer. I recently moved and had to go to a new salon and I had foil highlights but she never did the “toner” part because my new hairstylist didn’t know what it was (but I think I was calling it a “glaze” when I asked her about it). I found that my hair still looks dark where she did the highlights. I am wondering, what exactly is this “toner”? Is it a single process dye they are applying after the highlights? My natural hair is dirty blonde / light brown and my highlighted hair is light blonde. See below for a pic!
Thanks so much!!!!!!!!

It just really "tones" down their hair. Sometimes I get it, sometimes not-depends on how bright my hair looks-
and i get really blonde-almost white highlites

A toner is thrown in to tone down the highlights and then gradually it washes it. Its exactly that, a toner that washes out until you get used to your highlights color. Basically it covers the real color of highlight.
I didnt get it last time i got my highlights done. Just got to see the real deal.

Re: Ladies who get their hair highlighted!
it evens out the color to make the hilights more subtle
its not necessary. my current lady does it my old lady did not
however i will say that since getting the toner and having the new girls do my hair, alot of people have said my hlights look more natural..

I've also had it done a few times when my hair took on a yellow tone to the highlights or got 'brassy'

Thanks for all the responses! Although it doesn't really explain why my hair appears darker this time.... Hmmm - maybe I should just ask for "chunkier" highlights next time? Because at my roots, you can barely tell I had highlights put in!

I always like the toner/glaze, because it seems to blend the colors together and look more silky

She gives me a toner almost every time I get my hair highlighted and I don't know what it's for

Re: Ladies who get their hair highlighted!
I have to get toner when I get my highlights. I have very dark brown hair, and when I went to a new stylist, she did not put toner in. It looked horrible. Dark brown hair with white-ish/yellow-ish streaks....very unnatural.
I went back and asked her to put toner in to make it more subtle. She called it glaze. I'm not sure of the difference in terms though (toner vs. glaze).
