Craft fair question

What are your thoughts?

I make wooden signs - you know, the old fashioned type, folk art - they are wooden and then I paint them with acrylic paint and decorate with either wooden letters or handpainted sayings. I made one for example that says "sweet dreams" and another that says "casey's corner" decorated with pawprints and bones etc. I'll try to post pics later.

My town is having a street fair in September. I just started over the summer and really like doing it. I don't think I'll have enough to actually sell in September but I think I'd be able to set up a table and display what I've made and take special orders. I would personalize the items how ever the customer wants - sayings, colors, etc.

Would you or someone you know want one made for your room, or a kid's room or for your pet? Or even for your TV room, etc? My DH says he thinks people won't put in orders and will only buy it right then and there. The town I live in is very local -oriented so I would put a sign up saying "local vendor" and I think this would help. I think people would feel better about ordering if they knew I live right in town.

What do you guys think?

ETA: I didn't make the one pictured but what I make is just like this:

I don't see why people wouldn't be interested in ordering items if you personalize them. Why not do it? What's there to lose? Chat Icon

I think if you have a good amount to display and people like what they see, they will definately ask for special orders.
They sound nice- I think people sell these type of signs on ebay...they always seem to sell their too.

about the street fairs....are they usually free to have a table? I was going to look into something like that- I started making some jewelry but I know I would need a good amount to try out a fair.

Re: Craft fair question

I don't know if people would put in orders at a craft fair...I doubt I would.

But, I think that if you hooked up with a local vendor and were allowed to show samples of your work, people might order them in advance.

Re: Craft fair question

I think I may just browse this year and look into other fairs and possibly being a vendor at my town's next year....maybe i'll try selling on e-bay first!

I think things like that sell but I wouldn't necessarily place a custom order at a craft fair that I wouldn't take with me that same day. Is there someone you can split a table with??
