Re: NYC teachers!!!

I'm not a teacher but DH is. I think it's ridiculous to not have a snow day tomorrow. Most of the kids won't go in anyway. They have not even plowed our streets here in Queens and DH cannot even get his car out. He parked it in front cuz getting it out of the gargage would have been worse.

What are snow days for if the city is not going to use them? Come on Bloomberg!!!!!

They put the parents and kids first because closing the schools poses problems for a lot of parents. Unfortunately they don't consider that many NYC teachers come from LI, NJ, CT, places north of the city and genuinely have trouble getting to work. And frankly it's a bad situation- in my school we usually have a lot of teachers out (and ironically the teachers from the immediate area are just as likely to be out as the ones from far away Chat Icon ) and in my school MOST of the kids come. It's pretty chaotic.

Re: NYC teachers!!!

just heard that they haven't decided yet... a determination will be made later tonight or early in the morning... translation - we're open.

It just makes me mad because not everyone who lives in NYC lives by a subway line... they forget there are residential areas that haven't been plowed out and people who can't take mass transit to get to work. They only look out their apt. in the city and the streets look fine to them.

I'm just venting because I feel guilty that I'm thinking of not going in if we're open...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I hear ya! I'm not a teacher, DH is, but I feel the pain of all you teachers. DH couldn't not get his car out so he had to walk to a subway and then from there it's a 1 1/2 hour commute and he's traveling in one borough...Queens! Driving it usually takes him 25 mins. So he had to get up at 4:30 to shower and get ready and he left at 5:30 because his first class is at 7 am and the best part is that they ended up cancelling the first and second period classes. He called me before and was just livid about that! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
