water v. seltzer

i was one to drink anywhere from 1/2 a gallon to a gallon of a day pre-pregnancy, but ever since i found out i'm pg, i just cant stomach it bc it fills me up too much. and between that and the nausea, i just cant do it. is it terrible to substiue the water for seltzer right now until i can drink it again? ets i am 8 weeks along...

i mean i know its not the same as water but it definitely beats drinking too much of sugary juices or sodas, right?

Re: water v. seltzer

I barely drank ANY water my first few weeks of pregnancy, it just made me sick. But after about 8 weeks, it was all I could stomach. I now drink a ridiculous amount of water. As long as you are staying hydrated somehow, you'll be fine. Make sure you buy the no sodium seltzer, though.

Wrong... seltzer is water with carbonation. That's it. So its almost exactly like drinking water.

Re: water v. seltzer

Just wanted to add that in everythign I've read so far, they say in the first weeks of pregnancyy, even soup is a good way to get liquids in, so it's great to drink water, but I think it's natural to not be able to get it down the first few weeks. Maybe dilute juice with water or seltzer. That's what I do. I never drink juice straight from the carton anymore, I always fill it more than half with water now. I swore I would never do that because it sounded gross, but I find I cannot handle things that are too sweet these days, and sometimes I just need a change from water.

That's what I have been doing - watering down any type of juice I drink. And I just can't seem to drink water straight these days. I need the carbonation that seltzer has to stomach it... and actually it's been helping a great deal with my nausea. So I'll stick to sodium free seltzer for now til I can go back to my regular water! Thanks ladies! Chat Icon

Seltzer is fine! All it is is carbonated water with a touch of lemon, lime, orange, etc all natural flavoring. We drink lots of seltzer Chat Icon

Re: water v. seltzer

Seltzer, water, milk, juice, soup, decaf tea, jello... Anything that is fluid that isn't caffeinated counts as fluid. That's what is important. Any way you can get it in is fine. My dietician also told me that even caffeinated beverages count for half the amount (so a 12oz glass of soda counts for 6oz of water). Stay hydrated any way you can.

I am so glad someone posted this because I wanted to ask the same question. All I can drink is seltzer because I hate water and need the carbonation.
