High Pressure Salespeople

i cant stand it!

i go shopping to unwind and to keep my mind off of stress...im looking at a rack and this sales woman comes over and questions what im looking for, how great this dress would be on me, etc..

i make the mistake of telling them im looking for a dress for a Sunday afternoon wedding and they all come over grabbing dresses for me to try on

before i know it, the whole store staff is grabbing dresses for me.

i tell them, i need to look at whats in my closet and that im just browsing. to throw them off i ask when they are open on saturday (im NOT coming back saturday)
they tell me to "Try something on so if you come back, you can just buy it"

i finally say no.

when did shopping become "make up excuses to get out of the store but not hurt anyones feelings"

i am sick of it. i just want to browse. if i need help, ill ask!!!!!

anyone else sick of the pressure from salespeople???

Re: High Pressure Salespeople

I usually have the OPPOSITE problem! I don't know if I look young or if I dress down when I go shopping, but I can never get the salespeople to give me the time of day! However, I am sorry, I am NOT getting "done up" to walk through the mall for 2 hours on Saturday morning before I hit the gym.

Re: High Pressure Salespeople

I use shopping to unwind too. I can't stand it, all these people up my butt and too the left... I can get really snippy. My line now is "when I need your help, I'll ask for it".

Re: High Pressure Salespeople

There's a Kenneth Cole by my office that I won't go into anymore because of that. Don't these salespeople know that "just looking" means "go away and leave me alone!" Chat Icon

Re: High Pressure Salespeople

That is really annoying. I used to work in a clothing store that paid commission and I would never "attack" the customers...if the salespeople knew any better, they would just wait for the customers to come to them...I hate when they are pushy and up your b u t t..

Ditto in Macy's. I couldn't believe they were yelling at me. Then nobody would ring me up they were all pissy with me so they made me stand there with my shoes for 10 minutes. I was not putting down those Michael kors shoes, if they weren't on sale and so cute I would have threw them at them.

Everytime someone askes me for help I always say I am just looking. I actually try to avoid Macy's to buy shoes because their customer service stinks I think in that department. They all have attitudes and get nasty with each other, especially the one in Roosevelt Field. I use to work at the Limited and we were told to greet every customer and ask people but I really didnt like to do that because if people needed help they asked.

That's what I do too. I HATE being helped by salespeople unless I need them which is rarely. It annoys me to no end! So i usually just very abruptly say - im just browsing- to whatever they ask me and keep looking and that always works! They say well im here if you need - i say think you and keep walking. whatever you do - DON'T make eye contact or be too nice Chat Icon

I just walk out of the store... I hate PC Richards... we always have salesmen walking and following us.. ( they work on commission) so its like hunting to them.. I make sure I say very loud and clear... " Ugh, I hate when people follow me.. Ya know what.. Lets go to best buy.. They aren't as annoying"

I absolutely HATE when salespeople do that to me.

Because of it, I usually just walk out, and they end up losing my business, even if I did want to buy something.

Like you, I like to shop to relieve stress, and that just makes the shopping process stressful.

The shoe department in Macy's is the worst! Those people are very rude. I have done that too and gotten the attitude, but you know what F them!
If the first person didnt take a 1/2 hour to come back in the first place, then we wouldnt have to put 2 people on the same job Chat Icon
