Alimentum/Nutramigen users
I'm BFing, but thinking of starting to supplement with formula and my pediatrician told me I should use Alimentum or Nutramigen because we think he is allergic to milk and soy. So my question is, since it's so much more expensive, where's the best place to buy it?

First off I would try to get your medical insurance to cover it. Call them and let them know it is a medical necessity for your son since he is allergic to milk. My insurance company covered it for 11 months, I paid a 40.00 copay every month.

Did you sign up for coupons? That was how I saved the most when I had to use Alimentum even though it did nothing for us.

I was on Alimentum. I weould talk to your insurance and try to put in a claim to get it covered. I know many people who got that to happen - didn't happen for me - my insurance kept "losing" the claim.
My local King Kullen (bellmore) sold Alimentum the cheapest I found - $7/bottle for the ready to feed. They were often sold out so I stocked up when they had it.

Re: Alimentum/Nutramigen users
Thanks! I'll check with our insurance company. I do have a bunch of similac coupons so I think I'll go with Alimentum over Nutramigen.

Re: Alimentum/Nutramigen users
Jacob is on Nutramigen, and it costs a buttload in the stores. Cheapest i found was Walmart for $7.50 a can. My Ins. co used to cover it for me ,but my DH's insurance changed last month to aetna and they dont cover it unless he gets it thru a feeding tube! so i called the ped and it turns out that there is really no reason why jacob cant be on reg similac. We thought he had a milk/protein allergy but it turns out that was just the reflux. So i started weaning him off the nutramigen and onto the similac. $4.99 a bottle with a $5.00 coupon for similac works for me!!!!!!!! Good luck, i would check with the ins co though first!!!!!!!
