What does it mean when a baby is constantly rubbing his eyes...
DS seems to be doing that a lot lately. I know it's usually a sign of tiredness but he's doing it more than usual.

That's my guess. Usually i'll put him down for sleep and he'll start crying. He's been crying himself to sleep lately. Something is irritating him and I just can't pinpoint it! When I put him down he's always rubbing his face on the cushion part of the sleep positioner. He'll rub his face on anything he lays on.

Re: What does it mean when a baby is constantly rubbing his eyes...
DS started rubbing his eyes about 2 weeks ago... He does it all the time, sometimes when he's not tired. I think he is beginning to find his different body parts because he will rub his eyes and stare and his hands in amazement...

He does sneeze a lot but I heard that's normal in babies.

Should I keep monitoring this. You know like checking his eyes for any kind of discharge?

No. I would just let him sleep and see if that takes care of it. i think rubbing eyes is the norm for being tired in babies. I wouldn't automatically things it's something out of the ordinary.

But lately it seems as if he can't settle down. Like I said he is constantly rubbing his face against anything he is laying on. So I don't know if something is irritating him. Usually when I put him down for sleep, he sucks his paci until he settles down and then falls asleep.
Now he has to cry first. Don't know if this is just him fighting me.

Re: What does it mean when a baby is constantly rubbing his eyes...
he might be getting overtired. when they rub their eyes, there is a small window when they should go down for a nap, after that they start to get overtired and it's hard for them to wind down.

Yeah but he's rubbing his eyes half hour after he gets up. Like for example he had a 2 -2 1/2 hour nap and after a half hour he is rubbing his eyes...
It's starting to confuse me as to when he really is tired.

Re: What does it mean when a baby is constantly rubbing his eyes...
Right now he's been sleeping for 2 and a half hours. If he was sleeping wouldn't he have woken up cuz they would have trouble sleeping, right?

I'm saying if he was teething wouldn't he have woken up by now. Aren't they supposed to have trouble sleeping?
Not that i'm complaing. Please let him sleep all he wants.

They can wake up more often - but they still will sleep too.

Re: What does it mean when a baby is constantly rubbing his eyes...
As long as there is no puss or discharge coming from his eye then I am sure all is OK....especially if he is smiling at you.
He may just be discovering his body parts and like the feeling of rubbing against something or of rubbing his eyes.
Not to worry

To tell you the truth you sound like you might be worrying over nothing. Every baby does that. It's normal. While he's sleeping I would leave him be. If something was REALLY bothering him you would know it.

It's just that it's getting confusing for me to pick up his tired signals. So I still stick with the 2 - 2 1/2 hours of awake time.
