Is anyone NOT taking a childbirth class?
Just curious. We have time left to take one..they are asking $200 for a 6 hour course at my hospital...I just don't know what to do. I feel like I've read so much and been around so many PG women in my life, lol. I just don't know what everyone feels about it...am I the only one considering NOT taking a course?

I thought the same thing, until i actually took a class. I didn't know as much as I thought I did and believe me I did alot of reading, research and talking to many pg friends.
What helped me the most about the class since my hospital offered it, is I got real familiar with how things work, procedures, rules, the nurses of the hospital. So when the day came i went into labor there werent any unknowns about the hospital I knew exactly what I had to do, what was going to happen etc.
If it's your 1st child I def recommend taking a class, it's really worth it.

No, my friends all took them and said it was a waste of $$$. They told me the things they learned are the same things that the nurses tell them at the hospital.

Re: Is anyone NOT taking a childbirth class?
Many of the girls that took it over on the Parenting board regret spending the $$. I highly suggest the Lamaze DVD Laugh and Learn about Childbirth..........LAmaze and Beyond.....it was really great. You can do it at your own pace and go in chapters. I feel like I was completely informed going into everything.....

Thats a great idea about a DVD! I will look into that as well!
Thanks everyone for the advice. I don't think right now an extra $200 is feasible for the class...but i feel pretty certain i'll be ok. I hope so at least!

Re: Is anyone NOT taking a childbirth class?
I didn't bother the first time around (I did a LOT of reading and research) and I'm honestly glad that I didn't. I saved myself some money. I certainly won't be doing it this time around either.

Re: Is anyone NOT taking a childbirth class?
There are a number of posts on this topic so you can also do a search to get a ton of answers but I feel it is very important that a women truly understand what is happening to her body and baby during labor and delivery. I think a couple needs to understand the various things that may be presented to them during the time as well. In the middle of L&D is no time to start explaining everything IMO. I felt empowered when I took Hypnobirthing. It made me totally unafraid of L&D. I felt calm and sooo respected what my body could do. Now, I think Lamaze is a waste of time and money, but there are other classes out there to prepare you and guide you. Jmo, of course.
