SPINOFF: refinishing hardwood floors
just wondering, generally how much did it cost? how long did it take?
DH and I want to get the hardwoods refinished in our bedrooms. They have been covered by rugs and are in good shape.

We did ours ourselves and it was relatively easy. $150 for the sanding machine, and then whatever the stain and varnish cost (I can't remember exactly.)
It took us two days - the first day was sanding and the second day was the stain and the top sealant.
Then you have to not walk on it for 72 hours, so we took the dog and went to my BIL's in the Poconos for a couple days.
It was the easiest home improvement project I've done. The hardest part is moving all the furniture out and in again!!
