If you purchased your home recently...

how much did you offer compared to asking??

there is a house I have my eye on...its been on the market 6 mos+, but they have only lowered there asking price by $10K....and that was 3 months ago. Its low priced for the neighborhood, but it needs updating..

Re: If you purchased your home recently...

asking was 429 we settled on 400k

Dont be afraid to make an offer you never know

Houses are sitting longer and some sellers are getting desperate

Re: If you purchased your home recently...

We just bought a house that had been on the market 6 months and had already been lowered $20K. We offered $70K below asking and then settled on $30K below asking.

It really cannot hurt to give it a shot. Good luck!!Chat Icon

Re: If you purchased your home recently...

We bought over a year ago, but it had slowed down. It was on the market 2 months - they had alreayd lowered it 2x by $40K and we offered $19K less than that

When the house is on longer - you might have more flexible owners. When we sold our first place we accepted 11K below asking when we hit the 3 month mark (although we may have accepeted that earlier - but didn't get the number in the beginning)

I will say - don't be insulting. Someone offered $50K less (which was also 20K less for the smaller place down the block) and when he finally came up - we chose a different buyer.

Re: If you purchased your home recently...

House I am buying was $389,900, was on the market 3-4 months. Had an offer that fell through. We offered $365 first, then settle on $375. House across the street is selling for $450. They are looking to move out before the school year and they are moving across the country somewhere. This house is in great condition, but small.

Re: If you purchased your home recently...

the original asking price was 820k, we offered 800k, they countered at 805k, we said okay, but they had to throw the washer and dryer in (which originally was not coming with the house).

Re: If you purchased your home recently...

We bid $100 over asking and got it!! Chat Icon We were going to offer 3% less than asking because the market here is nowhere near what it's like in NY. But there were other offers (go figure! Chat Icon ) and we were afraid we'd lose it...so we bid asking...and then some!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

True... there's a house on my block that's been on the market for a long time (it's a gorgeous home too) They've already dropped the asking prince twice. It's 50k lower than what they were asking

Re: If you purchased your home recently...

One home we were interested in started at $140K OVER what we settled on (we decided against it once they finally accepted our offer, but they clearly started way too high). Needless to say, it's STILL on the market - I think it's been ca. 8 months.

Re: If you purchased your home recently...

The house we got was on the market for 4 months and they only dropped the asking price 11,000.

We offered $30,000 below their lowered price and settled at $21,000.

Re: If you purchased your home recently...

We bought our house last year...but it was priced to sell. If we had offered a penny less than what it was up for we would have lost it...and we did NOT want to lose the house.

if it's been sitting for that long, I would offer at least 10% below asking, if not more. especially if it needs updating.
