First, definitely use a meat thermometer to be certain but the approximate times are usually calculated by ~15min/pound (unstuffed).
So, for a 17lb turkey, it will probably take about 4 hrs, 15 min. But DEFINITELY go by the meat thermometer, the timing is just an approximation.

Thigh meat should be 180 degrees and Breast meat should be 170 degrees.
If you have stuffing inside the turkey, it must reach 165 degrees otherwise you can get sick from it.
Also, once it reaches it's temperature, let it rest for 30 minutes before serving!
