Re: Health Insurance Question...

I never heard of Vytra but I hated Oxford when I had it. You have to get a referral from your primary psychian everytime you need to go see a specialist.

Re: Health Insurance Question...

It depends on the specific plan u have with each of them..
Oxford if probably a little better from the stand point that they are a little more common and are taken at more offices..

Re: Health Insurance Question...

I just looked up Vytras' providers and all of my doctors accept it.

Vytra is cheaper for DH and me, compared to Oxford and that's for their highest plan.

just to give you a heads up though- Vytra takes FOREVERRRR to pay their claims (and they actually just merged with HIP)- so you may get a ton of bills while youre waiting for them to finally make payment, and the average wait time (if you have any questions for customer ervice) is at least 45 mins.

Re: Health Insurance Question...

Vytra does take FOREVER to pick up the phone if you ever need them - but in general, the plans that they offer are not too different from Oxford plans.

I have a gated Oxford freedom plan that requires a referral for every specialist, a $25 Primary Care MD copay, and get this - a $40 specialist copay. The specialist copay even applies to physical therapy or chiropractic care, and sometimes 2 or 3 visits are required per week. That's $120 a week!!! Chat Icon

I work with insurance for a doctor's office...and I've never encountered a Vytra with such high copays. Referrals are still required by some plans, and they're developing their website so that phone calls are not always necessary.

I would check the drug coverage if you take any regular meds - diabetes, birth control, etc. My plan (Oxford) did not cover my BC for a long time, and they change their "covered meds list" quite often. Sometimes my BCPs are just a copay, sometimes they're not covered and I have to pay full price. ....just something to think about.

I think if I was in your situation, I would take the vytra.

Re: Health Insurance Question...

I have Oxford Freedom PLan and I love it. I dont need ANY referrals, not even for specialists Ive seen. My copay is only $20 for regular drs or specialists. It also covered ALL of my infertility testing and treatments and procedures to get PG - which was thousands of dollars in just a few months - many times I didnt even have to pay a copay! I am VERY Happy with them!

I think you should find out from your HR person and DHs HR person what kind of coverage each company has with Vytra/Oxford. Also find out how much it will cost and what your copay is.

My family plan is $343. DHs is $140 - for the SAME coverage just diff ins. companies. His co pay is less too. No brainer for us to go with his coverage.

Good luck making your decision.

you must have a non-gated policy. Those are generally more expensive, but its sooooo much less hassle!!!

Re: Health Insurance Question...

it really does depend soooo much on the *specifics* of your plans (and the options each one has). i work in the field too, and its hard to make a generalization about the plans for each company when they vary soooo much, However, specifics of the plans put aside, the most complaints that i hear on a daily basis are from patients with Vytra- and their issues take forever to get resolved, b/c you can Neverrr get through to them.

Re: Health Insurance Question...

Well right now, I have Oxford and about $170 comes out of my pay, biweekly. I only go to my doctors for annual check ups.

Thanks for all the info.
