Powdered vs premade formula

In the hospital they were giving Emily Enfamil w/ Lipil, and now I'm pumping but also supplementing 2 feedings at night with the formula. We fan out of the readymade stuff that they sent us home with, so i picked up the powder and we're mixing that. however, i noticed the consistancy and color is way different from the ready made. the ready made was SUPER thick and a darker color, and powdered is very white, more similar to my breast milk. i am following the directions perfectly in making it. why the difference?

Re: Powdered vs premade formula

I just switched to powdered formula and noticed the same thing. I'm not sure why there's a difference, but, I think it's normal. What type of water are you using to mix it with?? I've been boiling distilled water, letting it cool and then mixing in the powder. I've gotten all different answers as far as what type of water to use, so, I'm just curious.

I've also noticed that it's helped her poop more frequently which I'm grateful for. I think it may also be helping to clear up her baby acne on her cheeks. So far, so good, I guess.

The powdered is thinner than the premade formula. I used the powder when I was breasfeeding because he would only have one bottle a day of formula. I have heard that the powder is supposed to be more like the consistency of breastmilk.

I am using boiled tap water to prepare the bottles. But I think I want my husband to get massive quantities of bottled water this morning because between the still constant trying to get her to latch at every feeding, then pumping, and supplementing with formula, I think that bottled water would just be easier.

I was told the same thing when I had my son..

And I used boiled tap water.. I would boil, and then put it in a pitcher. Is much easier to fill-and-go.. and it stays fine in the fridge..

ETA: wal mart and places like that should still have a few end of season glass ones with the spout attatched.. I LOVED that kind.. So much easier!!!!!!! HTH

I have been using powder too and I boil tap water. Yest my husb bought a liquid formula and the baby drank 2 ounces more than he usually does. The powder one gets very bubbly because you shake it. I don't know which one is better, I guess there is no difference. I am always nervous I am not preparing the powder perfectly correct.
