Soft Cheese

If the package says Pasturized, why can't I have it?

Re: Soft Cheese

I was told I could have soft cheeses as long as they were pasturized. I think every doctor is different and that is why I was told I can.

Re: Soft Cheese

I'm pretty sure if it is pastuerized you can have it. The problem with most soft cheeses is the risk bacteria causing food-borne illness when they haven't been pasteurized.

Re: Soft Cheese

Many soft cheeses aren't pasteurized, that's why you're advised not to eat them. But many soft cheeses that are made in this country are pastuerized and they're fine to eat.

That's not neccessarily true. If they're made domestically they can be pasteurized. It's mainly imported cheeses that aren't.

Opps, I meant Fresh mozzarella... I always play it safe anyway and if it doesn't say pastureized which those 3 do not, I won't eat them.

Re: Soft Cheese

UH-OH I had fresh mozzarella at a restuarant yesterday - the kind that is an appetizer - tomato and mozzarella. Am I not safe?

OK, anyone else now craving only soft cheeses Chat Icon Chat Icon

So, is the general consensus that we can eat all cheeses as long as the packaging (I am ONLY referring to when I buy it myself inthe store and look a tthe packaging) says it is pasturized?

This is what I was told and read about to make sure the cheese we eat is labeled pastuerized.

My doc said it is fine because the alcohol comes out in the processing. Think about it -- has anybody ever gotten buzzed or drunk from eating this cheese? I've eaten it tons of times during my PG.

Good site. It does say on there not to eat anything not pasteurized. If it is, then it is ok.

Re: Soft Cheese

Yes, if it's pasteurized, it's ok. I've asked when we eat out for the waiter to check with the kitchen if there is something I want that has soft cheese if it's pasteurized. 9 times out of 10 it has been.
