Where to take my picky husband for his birthday?
I love my husband to death but he is sooo difficult. He doesn't like any "weird" foods. On his bad list are: Thai, Greek, any kind of middle eastern etc.... Mind you, he hasn't even TRIED half these dishes but he is afraid. He also does't like any "fancy" dressings on his food. It makes it difficult on any occasion because I always end up spending hours on restaurant websites;going over their menu with a fine tooth comb. We can only go to so many Italian places or steakhouses!!!! Anyway, I want to "ease" him in to trying new things. Any suggestions for a fun place? Any location in Manhattan will due as we are here all the time. TIA!!!

Sounds like a man who would love a good old fashioned steakhouse. There are some great ones in the city- Mortons, Old Hempstead, Starks is OK.

Did you marry my husband too????
I had never had idian before and we went to this place called Ada. It was really nice and fairly americanized sort to speak, its modern and they serve drinks like Mojitos. Anyway, its a good way to ease him into something different. My DH and I were both surprised we liked it so much thinking everything Indian would be super spicy etc
Ada Restaurant - 3.8 miles NE - 208 E 58th St, New York, 10022 - (212) 371-6060

I went to the Old Homestead twice in the last 4 months. Both times were great! REally nice atmosphere.
Or Del Fresco's is always good too.
Good luck

That is something I would love to try with him. I am going to check out their menu!! He's going to be so nervous when he hears it is Indian.

Thanks ladies for the feedback!! Steakhouses are always a great option, but I wanted to go a little different route this time.

If your husband drinks beer... I recently went to John Harvard's Brew House in Lake Grove. It was actually pretty decent. Its a bar/restaurant... and they only sell their own beer that they brew on location.
I had a steak there that was pretty good (not on the Mortons level... but good for a bar).
I also had a pumpkin flavored beer that was very good (they put brown suagr around the lip of the glass... YUM).

Does my husband drink beer? Is the Pope Catholic? We are probably staying in the city but that is an AWESOME idea for when we are out on the island again. Thanks.

Then check out Times Square Brewery. Same idea... they brew their own beer.
There is also another brewery... hearland brewery I believe is the name... thats located on I think 49th street between 6th and 7th avenue. or maybe its 5th and 6th ave?

Re: Where to take my picky husband for his birthday?
We just went to Blue Smoke last night and it was awesome. It's a BBQ place and was lots of fun and there is jazz club upstairs. You can never go wrong with Italian. For fish we love the Blue Water Grill. Where I work there are a million restaurants that are all great, Tribeca Grill (american food), Flor De Sol (spanish - awesome paella), The Harrision (american food).

Do we have the same husband? Our special occasion dinners are usually at The Cheesecake Factory or a really good Steakhouse.

Re: Where to take my picky husband for his birthday?
What about Cuban? We went to Victor's Cafe a couple of months ago -- we found it a little different but you didn't need to be overly adventurous. Here's a link to their MENU
Or what about a place like Benihana's? Grilled steak, chicken, that sort of thing?
If you want a steak place...there's an Uncle Jack's on 9th Avenue that is supposed to be very good. (Which if it compares to the original one in queens, it should be).

Re: Where to take my picky husband for his birthday?
OH spanish would be a great idea! Tia Pol is an awessssomme spanish restaurant in the city. It may get him to be a little more adventurous too- My DH would never ever eat anything but the pig plates sounded like ham so he tried it and now he actually eats sausage lol and of course who doesnt like rice, Rioja and tapas. The tapas are fun too b/c he might get more into trying new things since they are only bite sized. and the tortilla espanola is kinda like an omlete. Its just a little easier to relate too. I still think Ada will be your best bet for something really different but not gross or challenging to try, but this place has the best tapas- lamb skewers-yum! and since he will probably not think its that different than 'american' you might get him to try more down the road

Re: Where to take my picky husband for his birthday?
How about a Churrascaria - non stop meat...this one is mroe upscale than some..
http://churrascariaplataforma.com/
or more casual but still nice non-stop meat Rodizio Restaurant (212) 353-2992 417 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10003+7005
Or one of my great standbys when I lived in the city - Cabana - there is always steak or pork cops as options (pretty basic)...I think there are 2 or 3 in the city but I use to go to the one in the high 50's/early 60's on the east side since it was near DH's old apartment. I took some picky eaters there and they all loved it. Great drinks too.
Brazillian, mexican, cuban, all kinds of spanish can make a dififerent place/environment but yet offer some basic stuff for easing someone into new foods. less intimidating for some reason.

Re: Where to take my picky husband for his birthday?
St. Andrews is the only Scottish pub in NYC- has good, non-exotic food. It's in the theater district.
Also the Heartland Brewery is good- there are a few locations in the city.
I am the fussy one in our relatioship.

Re: Where to take my picky husband for his birthday?
Oh how funny, I ws going to suggest Brazilian -- all kinds of meat and can be very simple, grilled, but they have intersteing things on the menu too.
I loved Ipanema -- 13 W 46th St 5th/6th New York, NY 10036 Nearest subway: 47-50th Sts - Rockefeller Center Station at 47th St & Ave of the Americas (0.27 miles away)
Phone: 212-730-5848 Fax: 212-730-1337
Before or after you could go up to the top of Rockefeller Center, now that it's open again!!
