Credit Check Question??
DH and I own a 2 family house. Our tenants of 5 years moved out and now we are looking for new tenants. DH wants to run a credit check on the potential tenants, anyone know how we can do this? Is it legal for us to do this? Any info would be helpful. TIA!!!!

Re: Credit Check Question??
I used to live in a building that had an RE office, and they handled rentals and ran credit checks. Maybe it would be worth it to call one? If they find you a tenant it's the tenant who pays the fees so I don't think you would be out of pocket anything.

I am pretty sure it's legal, I've seen landlords asking for credit checks all the time.. and they even ask the potential tenants for $30 for a credit check.

Re: Credit Check Question??
You have to get the request in writing or else you can be sued.

We were going to do this. Do we just calll a credit agency and tell them we are landlords with a written request for a credit check?

The laws are very particular about this. You might want to talk to an attorney to get properly advised.
