Does anyone know how a silent auction works?

I'm clueless... someone told me what they think but they were pretty sure they were wrong!

Re: Does anyone know how a silent auction works?

Generally, all the items up for bid are spread out on tables for viewing. Each item has a bid sheet next to it, sometimes the estimated value of the item is written on it. There is usually some amount that is suggested as the starting bid.

Bidders receive a number when they arrive and sign in. If you are interested in the item, you write your bid # and the amount you bid on the sheet. If someone wants to bid higher, they add their # and bid amount under yours. At the end of the auction, whoever has the highest amount bid, wins the item and pays for it. I guess you can compare it to Ebay, but it is in person, with no shipping costs. Chat Icon

If you REALLY want the item, you should keep going back to check the sheet, to see if anyone has outbid you, so you can raise your bid if you want to.
