Some concerns (kind of long but could use the advice!)

I have some new concerns now and are not sure how to deal with them. So if anyone has time to read and give advice I would greatly appreciate it!

So FH and I moved down to FL in July. It's been great but back in October we decided that after the school year is over we will move back to NY to be with our families. (Beg of June).

So all is great. We started house shopping and planning our move back.

Now we have this wonderful gift of a baby. And I'm not sure what to do.

Regardless of when we move back, I won't have insurance throughout the summer since my job knows I'm moving back to NY. I'm sure FH will have no problem finding a job with insurance but who knows how long it will take to kick in and if they will cover me then because it will be a pre-exisiting condition.

So I'm scared. We are moving to NY, I will be about 7 mths along and have no insurance.

What are my options? What can I do? I know its a little down the road but this is something that needs to be taken care of before its too late!!!! Any suggestions???

I'm going through a health insurance issue now as well. As I understand it, as long as you can provide proof that you had health insurance for 18 months prior to getting your new coverage with no break in coverage for longer than 63 days, they will cover your "pre-existing" condition.

Not all insurance consider pregnancy pre-exisitng. Mine does. You might have to pay COBRA for a few months to make sure that your lapse between your old coverage and new isn't longer than 63 days. I know it sux, COBRA is really expensive.

Good luck! Maybe you can ask your HR for advice, since they know you are leaving anyway it's not like you are giving anything away.

Are either of you entitled to COBRA? That will allow you to carry insurance for 12 months since seperation for service.

I did Cobra when I switched jobs. I wasn't pregnant, but it should still cover you.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I relocating to california. My DH company wants him to switch insurance. I am currently 30 weeks. according to BCBS pregnancy is not pre-existing.

Well I hope the insurance companies don't see it as pre-existing (as many of you say it isn't). How much will Cobra run?

pregnancy is not a pre-exsisting condition. I would not be without insurance while pg, you can either do cobra, or even go to a clinic until you get insurance again

Is there anyway you can pay your current employer out of pocket for insurance coverage for those last two months? You might be able to have them start deducting now so it's not a huge expense all at once.

You can get Cobra OR dont tell your job you are moving back - then insurance will cover you. You can always tell them after you move

Cobra DOES cover you under your old insurance. COBRA is just the administration plan as I understand it and you wou,d be covered under your old insurance and while you pay more than you would for insurance where a job pays a portion, it is less than you would pay for private insurance

I'll have to see what happens. This is very interesting though.

Anyone know of any clinics in the suffolk area? Does Planned Parenthood do that?

Personally I would NOT want to have a baby without insurance. A clinic is not the same as having your own OB.

You should be able to get COBRA thru your employeer. Whatever it costs it is better than no insurance. Here is why...if your baby is born with any type of problems (GOD FORBID) he/she could be denied coverage in the future because of a pre-existing condition, as could you if anything happens during the L&D. I would not chance it. I would stay put and have the baby then move. JMO...but what if your husband is out of work for a few months and his employeer requires 3 months before benefits kick in? I would be too afraid of taking a chance.
