are they brother in laws??
this is a question i cant figure out. i am married, and my sister is married, is my dh and her dh brother in laws?? my friends and i had an argument over this one.

I have heard that before, but I would still consider my husband's siblings SO as my BIL/SIL.

I agree with your friend. I don't consider by DH and my sister's DH to be BIL, just like I don't consider my sister's BIL to be my BIL. We all get along very well and are very close- in fact the 4 of us are going away together in a few weeks. I just don't see any "legal"relationship between by DH and my sister's DH.

All 4 men consider themselves ( and would introduce each other as ) Brother-in-laws.

Got it! I guess since we are all so close I never really thought of it that way! DH certainly calls my sisters hubby BIL so I guess he never thought about it either!

Merriam-webster dictionary online says this:
1 : the brother of one's spouse
2 a : the husband of one's sister b : the husband of one's spouse's sister
So according to 2b, your DH and your sister's DH are brothers in law. I wasn't sure of this myself - I had heard both explanations.

I remember this came up once in a class in college and they are actually called "spouse-in-laws".
I just consider them brothers-in-law though.
