Frightening crying fit last night
Hey ladies! I need to know that this is really just pregnancy. Last night after reading some pregnancy books that I thought were funny and lighthearted yet informative about pregnancy, I started crying uncontrollably.
I kept saying I didn't think I could do it and what if I slept through the baby's cries like I sometimes sleep through my alarm. I got nervous about getting really big during the end of pregnancy and not being able to recognize myself. I realized what my stomach will look like after the baby.
I started panicking about not knowing when to feed a baby and not getting sleep and DH and fighting about lack of sleep (he complains already if he doesn't get enough sleep)
I know some emotional times are normal during pregnancy but I think I cried for more than an hour and my eyes look horrible today
Is this serious?

How many weeks are you? I found that I was really emotional during the first trimester, but everything evened out after that. Don't worry.

Re: Frightening crying fit last night
It's normal. My hormones must have been raging yesterday.
I was cleaning out our office, found some memorablia and started bawling
Part of my brain wanted to bawl and the other part was saying... "What the heck is wrong with you, woman?"
Totally normal, as long as you recognize what it is you can take it all in stride.

15.5 weeks. And I wasn't like this in the beginning. I guess I am worried because I couldn't stop. It was like when a kid starts crying and can't control it.

Re: Frightening crying fit last night
Poor DH was a bit lost. He didn't know how to comfort me. I did realize something, though. While he tried to reassure me that I would be a great mom, I realized I didn't just want to know that. I wanted him to tell me that we are be a great team and we could get through this and anything else. Yes, I need reassurance that I will be good enough but I also want reassurance that he is with me in this venture.
Eeek, just typing this is making me tear up.

Don't worry, I really think it will go away, i was SOO emotional in the beginning - I cried every day - I quit smoking too - so it was sooo much confusion in my body.
the 13th week on, I really felt better.

Re: Frightening crying fit last night
Juliet I have read some of your posts. Maybe you shoukld talk to a therapist to help you through teh next couple of weeks. Also share with your DH that you want to feel that you are a team. I also feel that you are very paranoid about pregnancy's effect on your bdy(who isn't?) I want to reassure you that I know MANY women who have had 3 and 4 chuildren and look awesome. They may look a little different nude(which I wouldn't know about) But you don't create another life without some kind of battle scars. Good luck

Re: Frightening crying fit last night
Totally normal. In my 1st trimester i was reading a book too and started getting hysterical over everything i was reading that DH finally took it away from me. For me it was that i didn't "feel" pregnant at that point and reading about all that could go wrong with the babies got me to panicking and then made me start thinking about becoming a parent. Your hormones are crazy in the 1st trimester (at least they were for me). Crying actually made me feel better and sometimes did it alone so that no one would think i lost it.

Re: Frightening crying fit last night
You are not alone. I have been very emotional over the same exact things. It is typical of first time mothers to feel that way. I can't watch a baby story and not cry through the whole thing. At least you didn't cry over not knowing what you wanted for dinner (which is something I did )

Re: Frightening crying fit last night
I cried a lot in my first trimester. Nothing made me happy. I did not even know what I was crying about.
I feel much more balanced now.

Re: Frightening crying fit last night
I cry all the time. I am such an emotional pregnant woman. I was crying last night because I don't want my DH to take Damien by himself into the city to see the Wiggles. I can break into hysterics at the drop of the hat

Sorry to her that Juliet. Sounds like this week was especially tough. Try to stay calm and remember you have us for questions, support etc... I think its scary to do this especially for the first time. I think everyone worries. dont be hard on yourself.

Re: Frightening crying fit last night
Thanks for all of the support, ladies! After some thought, I have realized that my big fear is that DH is going to put a pillow over his head and ignore the baby or that we will fight because of lack of sleep.
I need him to reassure me but maybe he is having his own fears and can't do that yet.
We will get through it. I just felt scared that I cried for so long. I felt like the child who cries when he/she misses Mommy and then Mommy comes back and the crying continues.
Today I had a little fun in the Pottery Barn outlet and found some cute PB Kids things. It made me feel better.

Re: Frightening crying fit last night
Juliet, I'm due around the same time as you and I still go through a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Some days I am ecstatic and confident that I will be a great Mom and other days I am terrified and have so many fears. Just know that this is totally normal. It may help to talk to some friends/family that have been pregnant and through this before. My DH wants to burn all the pregnancy books that I have been reading because they just make me more paranoid. So try not to read too much and take everything day by day.

Re: Frightening crying fit last night
I would say it's totally normal too. For all pregnant women, your hormones are in flux, your body is changing, you are about to embark on something that is the one thing we're all afraid of screwing up and you are now permanently tied to your husabnd because even if you divorce him he has 50% say over your child.
When I felt overly emotional, I found it easier to just breathe slowly out (might as well practice this method. It's helped me with everything from labor to "If a stranger takes me, I have to live with him forever?" conversations )
This is a life changing event. While the baby things happens in one day, the rest happens slowly. While pregnant, I repeatedly had dreams where I left the baby somewhere & had to get home to feed it. My car broke down & I was running home but couldn't get there. You can do this. Women with a lot less qualifications, knowledge & support have been doing it for centuries. We all muddle through somehow. It may take a village to raise a child, but it takes a messageboard to help with parenting.
And you may sleep through part of a feeding but they scream REALLY loud. Loud enough to wake BOTH parents, no matter who is pretending to sleep through it.

Re: Frightening crying fit last night
Not during this pregnancy, but with my first pregnancy, I had a couple of crazy crying fits. There was one specifically near the end where I had a bad dream (can't even remember what happened specifically now), woke up and started sobbing to DH that I would be a horrible mother. I think it's completely normal!

Being that I was just pregnant and now a new mommy, I can tell you that what you are feeling is completely normal. All the fears and anxieties are what we all feel as new moms and mom to be. I remember one night I sobbed for no reason.
Don't beat yourself up about what might go wrong because it really won't go wrong. You won't sleep through the baby's cries and you and DH will find a rhythm that works so you all get some rest. It all falls into place. I promise!
