that's what we did, we didn't spend a DIME on boxes....just tape.

We used UPS the super large ones that are used for comforters and big items and loved how they turned out for moving. we were able to pack 70 lbs of stuff and ship them to FL. The boxes survived a 3 flight haul, and shipping, sitting in storage for a year, and moved into the house and stayed in great shape. We actually kept one box that has all of our sporting goods in it.

ask random stores after you know they've had a shipment.

Try grocery stores, video game stores, clothing or shoe stores in strip malls (I worked at Van Heusen in STony Brook Village and we gave away our boxes all the time---also try Bass Shoes..)

I bought a bunch a U-Haul...they were pretty cheap and you can return what you don't use if it's in good condition.

My BIL works in a lighting distributor - I'm sure you could ask a warehouse for good packaging boxes...like Sears?

bed bath and beyond---various sizes and not too expensive

Riverhead outlets.. (or bellport) Gap and several others have bins out back.. you can check with mgmt if you want.. The other stores have brown box recycling compactors.. the toy store was great, very strong and multiple sizes.. I just drove around the back and asked whoever was taking out the trash.. if no one was around, I went in and asked the bigger stores.. GL and HTH

I would caution you NOT to use any boxes that could have contained food. Yoou can get some serious bugs that way.

I teach and I like to use the copy paper boxes (we go through a lot of paper each day). They have tops and handles on the side. Good for heavy stuff because they are small.
