Naming your baby
Since, I believe, all of us are adopting babies (under 2) I was wondering what your plans are for names. In our case it is most likely that our child's birthmother/father named him as opposed to a gov't official. We plan on giving him a first name and then keeping his given Ethiopian name as a middle name..unless the first name is something that really strikes us and is easy for people to pronounce. Ethiopian names can be a bit of a challenge for Americans. If that were the case we would give him a middle name. We would like to combine the names and make sure he knows that both sets of his parents gave him his idenity. Our short list of names (that are subject to change) Theodore "Theo" Jason Ty Zachary..well DH doesn't like that one too much but I do so I still consider it "on the list:
What are your plans?

Re: Naming your baby
Ooo, this is a sensitive issue for us. DH & I agree on tons of girl's names, but chances are, we're going to have a boy. DH is the 3rd generation of men in his family to have the same name and would love to pass on the name to his son, especially if he's adopted. He said he'd like our son to feel a connection to the family and not think we stopped the naming tradition bc he wasn't blood. If we conceived, I wasn't going to give into this one, but now that we're adopting, I probably will. I also like the idea of keeping part of the name that the birthmother gave. We shall see.
Girl's names: Kiersten Kieren Rachel (we have been calling the baby our little lamb and Rachel means innocent lamb so we grew to love this name) Hanna (Our favorite winery in Italy and our favorite place in Hawaii, also I knew a Korean girl in HS with this name that was the most giving person...)
Boys: Probably Joseph Louis (I can't stand the middle name Louis and don't love when you call out the name Joseph and everyone in my DH's family turns around, but I'm starting to love the sentimentality of it all.) We will likely call him Joey (our little kangaroo, )
Thanks for spicing up this board. We needed some action on here! I absolutely love the names you picked out -- all of them. I love Ty.

Re: Naming your baby
Dh and I are in the name debate too.
If it is a girl (which I am not counting on) I like Maya. If it is a boy I am really pushing for Kai.
Tia's middle name is a combination of her Korean name and a name I wanted as her first name. Hyedi. Her Korean name is Hye Won.
DH didn't want to name her Heidi because he always thinks of a little blond girl.
DH doesn't like Kai but I love it/

Re: Naming your baby
On the top of our list is Rebecca Grace but I also like Kayla Marie. We might be using her Chinese name as a middle name though. We are still up in the air about that. I'm sure we'll change our minds a thousand times though!

Re: Naming your baby
my turn!
First off, all the names you ladies are considering, I love...and Zachery, one of the women coming on the 4th,her (biological) sons' name is Zachery..
We have decided on Ava Belle. With that her chinese name will be in there as well. I love the name Ava, I initially thought of Mia Bella. I love the name Mia (Maya is great!) but our neighbor name her daughter Bella, so --since my mom's middle name is Bell and her grandmothers name was Bell, We decided on Bell and just adding 'e'.
We talk about 'her', Ava, like she already exists, do you do that?
If we ask all these questions, we won't have anything to talk about on the 4th??? LOL!

Re: Naming your baby
We keep calling the baby "little man" and laugh over the fact that we will more than likely get a girl refferal bc of this...
